“‘Fruit of the poisonous tree’ is a legal metaphor used to describe evidence obtained illegally. The logic is that if the source, the ‘tree,’ of the evidence is tainted, then anything gained from the ‘fruit’ is tainted as well.
Applying this thinking to renewable energy technologies, including electric vehicles and their immense metal needs, we need to consider how sustainable the net-zero energy transition may or may not be, particularly if the ‘green’ technologies use materials that are not environmentally friendly.”
