After overcoming childhood trauma, domestic violence and physical health adversity, Jonny developed into the highest educated person in the history of his family when he became an attorney. Tragically, in his first year of practicing corporate law, Jonny was falsely arrested and accused of a crime that was later proven to have been fabricated by the police. However, during his stay in jail, he horrifically witnessed another inmate commit suicide. The ensuing lawsuit and legal battle pushed Jonny and his PTSD to the brink. Reliant on benzodiazepines (Xanax) after being prescribed them for 9 years, Jonny’s PTSD, Xanax addiction and issues with alcohol nearly cost him his life. Following his legal victory, Jonny enrolled in a PTSD treatment facility. After intensive care and healing, Jonny emerged free from Xanax and alcohol. Armed with the experience and knowledge of how to help other people in pain, WhiteFlag was conceptualized.
It was during his time in PTSD treatment that Jonny learned the value and miracles of connecting with someone who could personally relate to your struggles. So, when he started to feel better, Jonny began his mission to help bring healing and connection to those who were still in the dark place that he had escaped from. After starting his area’s only PTSD and Anxiety Peer Support Groups, Jonny became focused on helping people in pain connect with peers who can relate to, understand, and communicate effectively with them. In March 2020, Jonny created a non-profit corporation to facilitate the connection between people in crisis with those who were looking to help. The company grew to a local following of over 25,000 members and received high praise in the local media. Here, Jonny successfully raised money, supplies and housing for members of his community who were struggling.
As someone who has been through a tremendous amount of trauma and a battle with addiction, Jonny intimately understands WhiteFlag’s user base, what makes them reluctant to seek mental health support, and what is necessary for people in pain to develop a true peer connection. After merging his law-firm, Jonny focuses all of his time, energy and passion on bringing the WhiteFlag App and customized peer support to any and all of those in pain, just as he promised, while climbing out of the darkness years ago.
