Dr. Mark Clanton is a pediatrician with more than 25 years of senior executive experience in leading, managing, and advising large, complex healthcare, managed care, and scientific organizations.
In his current role, Mark oversees the development and implementation of Parkland Community Health Plan’s clinical policy and operations. He aims to produce optimal health outcomes and provide access to comprehensive, high-quality healthcare while incorporating population health and social determinants of health principles into PCHP’s clinical affairs.

Dr. Clanton has dedicated his career to ensuring quality care for people in Texas and across the U.S. and is eager to further that mission at PCHP. "As we continue to expand our footprint in Dallas and the rest of our seven-county service area, it's important that we offer easy access to healthcare, with a personalized approach that ensures our members feel comfortable with the care they’re receiving – we want them to value PCHP and view us as their health plan of choice," he says.
Previously, Dr. Clanton served as chief medical officer of the Accenture Texas Medicaid Claims and Administration program, which administers fee-for-service Medicaid operations in the State of Texas. He has significant experience in health plan and pharmacy drug card program operations and is a former chief medical officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Dr. Clanton’s consulting and advisory experience includes being a voting member of the FDA Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee, an advisor to the California Breast Cancer Research Program, an advisor to the Washington University in St. Louis National Council for the Institute of Public Health, and a member of the Siteman Cancer Center’s external advisory board.
Dr. Clanton received his undergraduate degree in microbiology from Howard University, his medical degree from Tulane University Medical School, and his master's in public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He completed his training in pediatrics at the Baylor Pediatrics program in Houston. Dr. Clanton is the past president of the Harvard T.H. Chan Alumni Association.
