“Before the coronavirus, 2020 was already a banner year for Montreal-based travel blogger Ricky Zhang.
By mid-March, the self-described ‘Prince of Travel,’ who runs a website under that regal brand, had been around the world a few times. In less than three months, he visited Switzerland, Japan, China, Qatar, the Maldives and Vancouver.”Â
“The loss of Empire Co-owned Sobeys and Safeway in 2022 was a ‘huge blow,’ according to Ricky Zhang, founder of Prince of Travel, a website that tracks and compares travel reward systems in Canada.
‘It was probably going to be a matter of time until something like this happened,’ said Zhang, in reference to Air Miles U.S. parent company, Loyalty Ventures, seeking bankruptcy protection from its creditors in the U.S. and Canada.”Â
“But for the 25-year-old part of the fun is using points and miles to snag business or first class flights.
Describing himself as “very curious about the world at large,” Zhang first got into the points game when he was a student at University of Toronto five years ago. The Canadian-Chinese citizen was traveling to China to see his family, but as a student, was on a budget.”Â
