“Allermi, a direct-to-consumer allergy telehealth company, raised a $3.5 million seed round, CEO Shani Bocian tells Axios exclusively.
Why it matters: While tough macro-conditions have dented the DTC health care market, allergy is an underserved segment and Allermi is a nice potential tuck-in for larger players.
Deal details:The round was led by Nelstone Ventures, which previously invested in skincare DTC telehealth player Apostrophe. Hims & Hers bought Apostrophe for $181.6 million in 2021.”
“But luckily for Shani, she was able to receive care from her father, Dr. Robert Bocian, who is an allergist and associate professor of allergy-immunology at Stanford. And after launching San Francisco-based Allermi in July, the two are now turning to help the 110 million other Americans who also suffer from allergies and rhinitis through its direct-to-consumer, personalized nasal spray. The company secured $3.5 million in seed funding, which it will use to grow its reach, the startup announced last week.”
“A San Francisco telehealth startup is trying to help chronic seasonal allergy sufferers breathe more easily with customized nasal sprays, and the company has raised new funding.
Allermi was founded in 2021 by CEO Shani Bocian and her father, Robert Bocian, an associate professor of allergy-immunology at Stanford University who has been creating custom formulas for rhinitis and hay fever patients for three decades.”
“The California-based telehealth platform, launched last summer with a $1.25 million pre-seed round led by Lucas Venture Group and has since expanded, available now in 27 states. Â
According to Allermi, the recent seed funding will help the company continue its national expansion and build and scale its business, product operations and marketing channels to meet growing demand — which is just as high as the pollen count these days.”
“Allermi is a direct-to-patient telehealth service to provide customized multi-ingredient nasal sprays for the relief of allergy symptoms. Unlike typical allergy treatments, Allermi nasal sprays contain multiple active ingredients customized for each patient’s symptoms and severity.
Our customers are allergy sufferers, most of whom are chronic and severe, experiencing daily symptoms.”
